Are YouTube Shorts Part Of Your Content Strategy?

If the answer to that question is no, you may want to ask yourself why that is.

Posting daily YouTube Shorts videos can be a game-changer for small content creators looking to grow their audience and engagement on YouTube.

As of 2023, YouTube Shorts has become incredibly popular, with the platform reporting over 15 billion daily views on Shorts videos.

Shorts Overcome Twitch’s Discoverability Problem

By creating and posting daily Shorts videos, content creators can tap into this growing audience, and increase their visibility on the platform or drive users to external platforms. This is incredibly important if you are on a platform like Twitch, which does not prioritize providing discoverability tools or resources for its content creators.

Shorts Given Top Priority At YouTube

According to recent data, Shorts videos are currently prioritized in YouTube's recommendation algorithm, leading to an increased chance of reaching new audiences and gaining more subscribers. The short-form video format is also ideal for creating snackable content that can keep viewers engaged and entertained, potentially leading to higher watch times and increased ad revenue. In fact, YouTube recently reported that Shorts videos have a 45% higher click-through rate compared to regular videos.

My Shorts Experiment Results: 7,000 Views in 7 Days

I personally decided to experiment with this idea this past week when I created a brand new YouTube channel that published content focused on the game, Fall Guys. If you’ve known me for even a small amount of time, you’ll know it is a game I’m quite fond of.

In the last week, I posted one YouTube Short each day for 7 days. The videos targeted my primary audience: gamers who were interested in Fall Guys. I also made sure to time my content with the upcoming launch of a new season which tends to get a spike in viewer traffic from the game’s new and returning player base.

In the chart above represents my YouTube channel’s analytics dashboard. You can see that in just 7 days, I’ve already earned 7,000 views and nearly reach my first subscriber milestone of 25 subs.

My Next Goal: 1K Subscribers

My plan is to continue posting Shorts content as regularly as possible until I reach 1,000 subscribers. Here is how I plan to accomplish that:

  1. Continue publishing 5-7 Shorts each week

  2. Discover content that can be produced as a continual series ie. Fall Guys News Updates

  3. Reply to every comment I receive on each video

  4. Cross promote my new channel on other platforms like Twitter, Twitch, and my main YouTube Channel.

  5. Republish high performing Shorts on other platforms like Reddit and TikTok

Overall, daily YouTube Shorts videos can be an effective way for small content creators to boost their reach, engagement, and earnings on the platform, with the potential for higher click-through rates and increased ad revenue.

If you’re currently experimenting with Shorts, I’d love to learn about your strategy and learn about what is working for you!
